Good Faith Estimate

The federal “No Surprises Act”grants consumers the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate”explaining how much their medical and mental health care will cost. Under the law, health care providers, including psychotherapists, must give clients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for treatment services. The act also requires healthcare providers, including psychotherapists, to inform their clients of this right. Additionally, this act requires that information regarding the availability of a “Good Faith Estimate” must be prominently displayed on the website of all health care providers, including psychotherapists.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.

You can ask all of your health care providers, including your therapist and other providers from whom you seek treatment, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises/.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellation / No-Show Fee: $250 (*To avoid a fee, cancelation is required 24 hours in advance of the appointment; in addition, an appointment will be considered a “no show” 10 minutes past the scheduled session start time)

Out-Of-Network Insurance Provider

David Shein, MSW, LCSW, does not contract with any insurance companies.  Services are provided on a private pay basis, and therefore, are considered “out of network.”

Most health insurance plans provide some form of coverage for outpatient psychotherapy. Though insurance plans vary, most insured clients can receive some reimbursement for outpatient mental health services (typically up to 80%).

As a courtesy, you will be provided with a “Super Bill,” which contains the necessary billing and diagnostic codes for you to receive the benefits to which you are entitled.

David recommends that you contact your insurance provider, tell them you would like to go “out of network” for behavioral health, and find out exactly what mental health services are covered by your insurance policy.

Please be advised that a quote of benefits is not a guarantee of payment from your insurer.
